Bechamel Sauce

minutesThis mother sauce can be used as a base to make other white sauces, such as Alfredo.
Ingredients
1⁄3 cup butter
3 tbsp greated onion
3 tbsp flour
1 1⁄2 cup chicken or vegetable broth
1 1⁄2 cup half and half
3⁄4 tsp salt
1⁄2 tsp ground white pepper
1 1⁄2 pinches of thyme
1 1⁄2 pinches cayenne pepper
Directions
- In a small saucepan, melt butter and stir in the flour, salt and white pepper.
- Add cold half-and-half and cold chicken broth all at once. Stir well. Cook, stirring frequently, at medium heat until thick
- Remove from heat and stir in seasonings.
